On Sunday 26th August, members celebrated the 30th Anniversary of Barton Le Clay Bowling Club. The idea of a Bowling Club in Barton was formulated in 1984 when 10 members started fundraising to build a club house and lay the green. The club was opened in 1988 with a British Rail Ticket Office from Hitchin serving as the first Club House. Since its formation around £150,000 has been raised by club members to improve the facilities of the club and to help local good causes and charities.
At the start of the evening Chairman, Graham Newsom (on the left of the photo), made a presentation to John and Kath Cornish for their outstanding commitment to Barton Bowls Club over its thirty-year history. John had been one of the first club Captains and he, and Kath had both been fixture secretaries over many years. John had also been a club coach and Kath had been floral secretary; however, unfortunately Kath was unable to attend the presentation due to ill health.
